Okay so this is following up a post from… 3 weeks ago… which was following up a post from 3 weeks before that…

We were discussing situations where I had poorly designed some high value battle cards (moves) from Aethermon so that they were only valuable as part of a combo. This led to situations where playtesters would take these moves without the rest of the combo, creating a situation where it was difficult for them to advance in the game.

We previously explored a solution where we gave the moves some early utility so low level Aethermon could still get utility from these moves. Today we explore another case where instead of buffing a move, we instead depower and lower its cost (granting low level Aethermon learning this move additional HP)

Our Sky-Type companion, Cervistral’s Value-5 “Aerial Assault” previously dealt 5 damage and doubled the effect of (F)lying buffs. Unfortunately early the most powerful starting (F)lying buff is 2 damage… so its peak value early is 7 Damage…

Our solution here was not to increase the Battle Card’s utility early game (like we did with “Afterburn”); instead we scaled down “Aerial Assault” to Value-3 (Deal 1 damage + double damage from (f)lying buffs). We subsequently increased the value of other moves to ensure Cervistrals maximum output was not negatively affected.
